How Our Stats Are Calculated

Your guide to understanding the BiFrost leaderboards.

Our Ranking Philosophy

Our leaderboards are designed to reward skillful and consistent play. To ensure fairness and accuracy, we use advanced statistical methods that look beyond simple totals. This means that players who perform well consistently over a meaningful period of time are more likely to rank highly than those who might try to "grind" the system by just playing a lot of matches. Our system uses techniques like rate-based metrics (e.g., Kills Per Minute instead of Total Kills) and statistical smoothing to ensure the rankings are a true reflection of skill on the battlefield.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Total Matches Played

This is a simple count of all completed matches ever played across all tracked servers since the beginning of time.

Total Kills Recorded

The grand total number of kills recorded across all players and all completed matches.

Combined Hours Played

The sum of all time spent in-game by every single player, added together to show the community's total dedication.

Players Online Now

A live count of players currently active in games on servers that we are tracking.

Player Leaderboards

Top Players by Kills/Min

This leaderboard identifies the most efficient slayers. It's not just about total kills, but about a player's average number of kills per minute of gameplay. A higher score means a player is consistently effective. The score is also statistically smoothed to prevent players with very little playtime from skewing the results. Team kills are penalized.

Example: Player Sgt. Striker has a score of 1.25.

  • What it means: On average, Sgt. Striker gets 1.25 kills for every minute of active gameplay.
  • Inputs: Net Kills (kills minus team kills), Total Playtime, and the community average Kills/Min for smoothing.
  • How to improve: A higher score is better. Focus on efficient and consistent offensive play.

Top Players by Weighted K/D

This measures combat effectiveness using a Bayesian average. This sophisticated method gently pulls a player's K/D ratio towards the community average. This "smoothing" effect is strong for new players but gets weaker as they play more matches. It means we have more confidence in a player's stats as they build a longer track record, making this a very trustworthy measure of skill.

Example: Player Cpt. Consistent has a score of 3.50.

  • What it means: After accounting for experience and consistency, their proven skill level is equivalent to a 3.5 K/D ratio.
  • Inputs: Net Kills, Total Deaths, and the community average K/D for smoothing.
  • How to improve: A higher score is better. A strong K/D over many matches will raise this score.

Top Survivors (Deaths/Min)

This board celebrates our most resilient soldiers. A lower score is better here, as it shows which players are best at staying alive. The ranking is based on who has the fewest deaths per minute of playtime, and like our Kills/Min board, this stat is smoothed to ensure fairness.

Example: Player Pvt. Ghost has a score of 0.40.

  • What it means: Pvt. Ghost is very hard to kill, dying on average less than once every two minutes.
  • Inputs: Total Deaths, Total Playtime, and the community average Deaths/Min for smoothing.
  • How to improve: A lower score is better. Focus on survival and tactical positioning.

Top 10 Recent Form

Want to know who's hot right now? This leaderboard looks at player performance (based on our Weighted K/D) over the last 7 days only. It showcases the players who are currently at the top of their game and performing exceptionally well in recent matches.

Example: Player Major Momentum has a score of 4.20.

  • What it means: Over the last week, Major Momentum has been playing at an elite level, equivalent to a 4.2 Weighted K/D.
  • Inputs: Net Kills (last 7 days), Total Deaths (last 7 days), and the all-time community average K/D for smoothing.
  • How to improve: Perform exceptionally well in the current week to climb this board.

A Deeper Dive into Our Stats Model

The "Confidence Factor" (Bayesian Smoothing)

To prevent players with a few lucky games from dominating, we use a technique called Bayesian smoothing. You can think of it like this: every player on the leaderboard starts with the stats of an "average ghost player." As a real player plays more matches, their own stats begin to outweigh the ghost player's stats. This means a player's rank is a combination of their performance and our confidence in that performance based on their playtime. It ensures that the top spots are earned through consistent skill over time.

Leaderboard Eligibility

To ensure the data is meaningful, players must meet certain minimum requirements to appear on the leaderboards. This typically includes a minimum amount of total playtime and a minimum number of matches played recently. This prevents players with very little playtime from appearing on the leaderboards and ensures that the rankings are competitive and relevant.

Data Caching & Freshness

Calculating all of these complex statistics across our entire player base is a computationally intensive task. To ensure the homepage loads quickly and remains responsive for everyone, we use a technique called caching.

This means that we pre-calculate all the stats you see on this page and store the results for a short period. When you visit, you are served this saved "snapshot" of the data almost instantly. While this means the stats are not updated in real-time to the exact second a match ends, the cache is refreshed very frequently. This ensures you always see up-to-date information without sacrificing page performance.

Community & Game Stats

Community Kills Per Day Chart

This chart shows the total number of kills achieved by the entire community over the last week. It's a great way to visualize the overall activity and intensity of the fighting on a day-by-day basis.

Most Lethal Weapons Chart

We rank every weapon in the game based on the total number of kills it has achieved across all players. This chart displays the top 10, showing which weapons are currently the most effective in the community's hands.

Top 10 Battlefields

This is a straightforward ranking of maps based on the total number of times they have been played to completion. It's a great way to see which battlefields are the community's current favorites.
